East Taieri Cemetery, Mosgiel....
My Ancestors buried at East Taieri Cemetery...
My great great grandparents on my maternal side - Thomas KIRK and Janet MICHIE are buried at East Taieri. Both were born in Scotland. Thomas at Lochmaben, Dumfries in about 1832, and Janet at Leslie, Fife in about 1846. They came seperately to New Zealand and married in Mosgiel.
Janet was a widow of Robert ROBERTSON and her son William Robertson came and settled in Mosgiel too. He married Frances Mary SWALLOW in 1898 and had two daughters.
Thomas and Janet KIRK had 2 daughters and a son; Annie Marguerite - my great grandmother;
Mary Agnes (Molly) and Robert John KIRK. Molly was a WW1 Nurse, Bob went to Timaru.
Annie Marguerite married William Ernest McLEAN in 1906. They lived at Mosgiel and are both at East Taieri Cemetery.
Their son Kirk Carruthers MCLEAN was my grandfather, his ashes are interred at East Taieri also.
He married Jessie Gallacher WALLACE, of East Taieri.
Jessie's parents Archibald WALLACE and Mary F MIDDLETON are also buried there.
along with her young brother Billy.
Since starting the family history research, I discovered someone from my Paternal side is at East Taieri as well. My 3rd Great Grandparents William COOPER and Margaret WILSON were married at Mosgiel, and their youngest daughter Catherine Dow COOPER aged 2 and a half is in an un named plot at East Taieri, died 1875. Her older sister Janet is my ancestor, they moved to Waikoikoi, West Otago.
