William Cooper from Scotland to New Zealand

William Cooper,

I finally started reading through the notes on William Cooper and Margaret Wilson
that were in cousin Dean's folder. They were from correspondence between cousin George Morrison and a genealogist in Scotland, doing research in Scotland. 1980.

So I started following the trail, entering what she had gone to the Archives and found,
typed up and posted back to Mr Morrison.
and I found a lot of it online, mainly on Scotlands People's indexes.

Then coincidentally, My Heritage updated their Matching systems, and I found lots of Coopers.
Cousins from the sisters of William Cooper, Helen and Elizabeth. Who stayed and married in Scotland.

I contacted a Smart Match cousin through My Heritage, messaging on Jan 27th, to say his ancestor Ellen (Helen) Cooper was the sister of My 3 GGrandfather William Cooper of Waikoikoi.
so according to chart we would be 4th cousins once removed, as 6 generations back from me and 5 generations back for him to Catherine Dow and Gavin Cooper. saying I was going to Scotland,
his profile says Great Britain, I was hoping they still live in Lanarkshire!

and I got a reply.... saying Yes that Dna match looks right. He even knew Dunedin because the ship he worked on came here to pick up frozen meat! Said to get in touch after I'd seen 'closer' cousins on my travels....little does he know he IS the closest.

William Cooper; Margaret Cooper nee Wilson c1900
my 3G grandparents, both born in Scotland, died Waikoikoi, NZ
